FAQ du Jour - Tent Camping Tickets

Hi!

So, we've changed the policy on tent camping tickets - instead of mailing them out, we're going to be holding them all at the gate. A bunch of people have been calling and emailing asking why, because there's some concern that it adds another step to the process and will make things take longer. Fear not, though, my friends!

The reason we're holding them at the gate is so we can actually speed up the process. For those of you who've done the tent camping thing before, you know that the situation used to be as follows: 1) Schlep all your stuff into the ticket exchange line. 2) Exchange weekend tickets for wristbands. 3) Schlep all your stuff through the gate and get in line for tent camping ticket exchange. 4) Fill out an index card with all of your information so the Health Department doesn't shut down the festival. 5) Get your sticker. 6) Set up your tent.

With us holding the tent camping tickets at the gate, we can now eliminate steps 3-5 from this process. You'll be able to get your tent sticker at the same place you get your wristband (make sure you get in the right line!), and therefore only have to wait in line one time. We'll have the card filled out for you already, and your sticker ready to go. Yay!

Also (BONUS!) it'll save us a couple of hundred dollars and about four acres worth of trees by not mailing out all of the tent camping passes. More yay!

When is it going to stop being winter?

how are tent sizes being checked this year? It said that you can only have up to 4 person tent, but there were a lot of big tents last year and before.

We have a tent camping crew monitoring that situation. Keep in mind that many people bring extra-large tents, but purchase 2 stickers to put on them. If you feel that a neighbor's tent is oversized, feel free to snag one of the tent camping crew members (they're the ones walking around with tape measures monitoring the 5-foot distance between tents) and let them know your concerns.

what if \the only tent you have is a huge tent, but your keeping only four people in it?

When we say "four person tent", we're doing it because we have limited ground space. It doesn't mean that you can set up a 7-room desert caravan monstrosity and pay the same price as someone who just set up a four-person tent. Because that would be unfair. And we love fairness.

A good guideline is no more than 36 square feet per person, as far as tent floorspace goes. That's about a 12x12 tent, if my vague memories of high school geometry serve me well.

We agree that all the information on Camping and Hunting is available out there on the net. What's special about this site is that you don't have to go searching all over the place now. All you need is to go through this site, and you'll find everything you want right here.

Hi Megan,
This is really helpful. My tent says 4-6 people, so I bought two tent spots just in case, so that is okay right?
