Thanks for a Great Year!

2013, despite some intense heat, treated us pretty well, didn't it? The music was great, the people were wonderful, the food was delicious, the art was beautiful, and so on and so forth. We're thankful to be a part of your lives, and look forward to seeing you again next year! While you're here, leave us a comment and let us know how your festival went. Thanks!

Grassroots fest is always a fantastic experience and the logistics must be overwhelming at times but with all the money that Trumansburg gets, you would think that the fairground bathrooms would get updated someday.
There are plenty of port-o-johns but the bathroom building near the dance tent are disgusting and at times are out of service!

I think at least one of the security team needs some stress reduction services... I went out of my way to thank him for helping me last year, and he said that he rarely hears gratitude. Also I saw him chewing out a mom under the grandstand bleachers, and they were really cranked up in an accusation / defense argument about her kid. He scared my children with his tone and volume. I'm a BIG fan of the security team - just would like to see more LOVE in the process in moments like that. Later on when I needed to speak to security, I had doubts that he would handle the matter with the necessary delicacy. Perhaps they could be given and opportunity to take Alternatives to Violence (AVP) training sometime before the next Grassroots. It's a fantastic Quaker program for learning about peace and peaceful methods of problem solving and communication, born right here in NYS.

As a first-timer at GR (and a regular at Falcon Ridge), I have very mixed feelings about the Fest. (BTW, in case the sweet stage manager with shortish dark hair is reading this, I'm the guy who gushed to you in the Cabaret about how much looser and more fun GR is than FR - and it is).

The setting is great, the food vendors are surprisingly good, the people wandering around are a blast, the dance tent was incredible, and the lineup of performers is superb. In short, it's a great place to see bands.

Unfortunately, it's a terrible place to *hear* bands. I didn't attend more than two performances during the entire Fest that were not at least marred, and more times ruined, by Festgoers who think that it's appropriate to talk, or more often yell, over the bands.
We moved at least six times to get away from people having full-volume conversations during Crowell/Harris; and before that, people directly in front of our site in the infield made it next to impossible to hear Fatoumata. There was the elderly gentleman bellowing over Driftwood, essentially drowning them out. Most infuriating, just because of the senselessness of it, were the three well-dressed and at least chronological adults who, midway through the Grady Girls' wonderful performance at the grandstand, sat down ten feet from us, started a loud, non-stop conversation, and ruined the show.

It seemed as though I was in some sort of parallel universe when a bright, articulate kid planted himself directly behind our chairs in the Cabaret and started a full volume conversation, and told me that I was "incredibly rude" for asking him to take it down "at a rock concert" - as though Calico Moon in the Cabaret were Metallica in an arena.

I enjoyed being at GR. But I doubt that I'm going to want to drive four hours again to *not* hear the music.

As you all know, our area is quite rich with musical talent. It would be refreshing to see some new acts in addition to the old favorites.

This was my 17th Grassroots Festival and I'd like to say excellent job and thank you to all the individuals that work to make the festival a success each year. The music line-up was stellar yet again this year. Thank you for giving us a great place to come recharge our souls. I don't know what I would do without you. We brought our 3 year old daughter to the festival this year and she had a blast in the dance tent and was mesmerized watching all the interesting people walking around the grounds. I all ready have my countdown for next year started. Stellar 2013 Festival.
